Residents and environment to benefit from new carshare deal
Student accommodation provider Atira has lifted the student experience another gear, joining forces with Australia’s biggest carshare provider GoGet to launch Australia’s largest carshare pod in a student housing development.
The partnership will allow Atira residents special discounts to use the GoGet service so they can live without the hassles of owning their own car and provide community benefits such as less traffic congestion, improved neighbourhood parking and fewer greenhouse gas emissions.
Under the plan, Atira residents will be able to access GoGet vehicles from as low as $6.55 per hour or $74 per day with petrol, insurance and free membership included.
CEO of Atira Student Living, Andrea Slingsby, said the partnership was the latest step in delivering new levels of innovation and service for students, whilst reducing the environmental footprint.
“Students these days are very switched on about the importance of caring for the environment and with each GoGet car taking as many as 12 vehicles off the road, the benefits can be quite significant.
“Atira is also very mindful of easing the transition between home and university life, and this is another way we are streamlining that process by providing the freedom of travel without the inconveniences and associated costs of car ownership such as petrol, registration, maintenance, cleaning and parking.
“We are very excited to be the first student accommodation provider to offer this unique car sharing service,’’ she said.
GoGet’s Head of Locations and Partnerships, Christopher Vanneste, said carsharing was a perfect fit for the student community.
“Carshare allows people to live without a car of their own by booking a vehicle by the hour or by the day as they need one.
“Drivers use a personal swipe card to access the vehicle closest to them and return the car to the same parking spot when they’re done.
“By splitting the fixed costs of car ownership across many drivers, it’s an easy and cost-efficient alternative to private car ownership.’’
GoGet says carshare reduces car dependence since vehicles are accessed only when required, resulting in reduced congestion impacts and fewer emissions.
