Welcoming students from all over the world, Atira loves to celebrate different cultures, festivities, and traditions. The month of March features a lively Holi Festival Dinner and a group field trip to the Rocks Riverside Park for BrisAsia’s Holi Colour Run!
Our Student Experience Assistants (SEA) come from all over the world and we’re very lucky to have Rahul and Rubani (our resident Holi Experts) share traditions and customs from their home countries so everyone can experience a taste of Holi at Atira. Read on for a glimpse at our very own Holi Festival! ????
In today’s crash course in World Culture: Holi is an ancient celebration, also known as the festival of colours celebrated in honour of the Hindu god Krishna, and the legend of Holika and Prahlad which stands as a reminder that good always defeats evil (#preach).
Holi festivities are usually prominent in India, Nepal, other South Asian countries, and communities in parts of Europe, the U.K, America, and Australia.
The celebrations include a lot of lively music and dancing, heaps of colour, and A LOT of yummy Indian food. Our own version was organised by our awesome Student Experience Leader and Assistants.
“It was absolutely spectacular! I was very excited to dress in my ethnic wear,” – Rubani, Atira Regent Street SEA.
“The food was extremely delicious. It was a delight seeing the residents enjoy our traditional Indian food. They absolutely loved the spice in the savory dishes and the sweetness in the drinks!” Rubani said.
“It was awesome seeing Residents from different nationalities coming together like one big family. It’s why I love living at Atira,” SEA Rahul, from Merivale Street said.
Residents then went to a group field trip and participated in the Holi festivities at the Rocks Riverside Park. They all had fun throwing colours at each other and dancing to some music. They had Live DJ Music, Dance Relays, Bollywood and Multicultural Performances, Live Dhol Music and much more!
We love to celebrate Australia’s wonderfully diverse multicultural community. Our Student Experience Leader organises heaps of events for our residents so they can meet new friends and make the most of their uni life here in Australia.
Holi is just one of our fun-filled events celebrated in March. Stay tuned for more amazing Student Experience Events at Atira Student Living- your home away from home!
