Brisbane Greeters Tours
During the university orientation weeks we will be organising guided tours of Brisbane for all of our residents to attend free of charge so that they may get to know the key aspects of the city, as well as the history and culture of the city. Brisbane Greeters is an ambassador service that welcomes and connects visitors, locals and new residents to Brisbane. Greeters conduct short walking/public transportation orientation experiences based on special interests and places around the city.
They offer a unique experience to connect with Brisbane through a knowledgeable and enthusiastic local volunteer. Greet experiences are flexible, intimate and authentic. Greeters are “newly met friends!”. All greets will include up to 25 people only. The overarching purpose of the Brisbane Greeters program is to:
- Give visitors a deeper perspective of Brisbane.
- Enhance resident and visitor satisfaction.
Brisbane Greeters offers a way to:
- See Brisbane as a friendly, safe city offering a high-quality lifestyle.
- Be introduced to so much to do in Brisbane – extend your stay, return, work and live here.
- Explore different parts of the city.
- Find your way with ease.
- Access and use public transport.
- Encourage social inclusivity.
- Celebrate cultural diversity.

These activities will include Australian classic sausage sizzle, movie & popcorn nights, video games comps, team based sporting comps, karaoke nights, and trivia nights
Care & Support
In partnership with Red Frogs Australia, Atira South Brisbane will be providing a free weekly pancake breakfast for all residents, this breakfast is designed to provide an opportunity for our residents to interact with the Red Frog Youth Councillors.
Red Frogs is a support program for young people from the ages of 15 – 25. Red Frogs recognize that the culture of young people is dominated by alcohol and that excessive consumption of alcohol and other substances can lead to dangerous and life altering behaviours. Therefore, Red Frogs make it their mission to provide a positive peer presence in alcohol-fuelled environments where young people gather, and they are able to educate young people on safe partying behaviours. They promote and provide non-alcoholic and/or diversionary activities that engage young people in these environments.
Information & Education
At Atira we understand that for a lot of our residents living with us this time will be their first experience out of home and the first step in their professional lives. It is for this reason that we aim to provide our best helping hand in order for you to get the most out of your stay in Australia. Or just help with building life skills needed for a comfortable and safe life in the future. In both the South Brisbane and Woolloongabba student accommodations we will be providing our residents with guest presentation and classes, including;
- First aid certification with Saint John’s Ambulance
- Responsible Service of Alcohol Licensing with Club Training Australia
- Basic car maintenance and safety instruction workshops with RACQ
- and domestic animal care (with volunteer opportunities) with the RSPCA.
Parents & Guardians
We understand that for many of our residents Atira will be their first time out of home, and we know this may sometimes be a nervous experience for the parents and the residents We also know that residents are young and may not have had the experience when dealing with all the requirements of student accommodation and study overseas or away from home. It is for this reason we try to allow as much parent input into the resident’s lifestyle as we can.
Within the Student Experience Initiative, we will be rolling out package deals so that the parents can decide what tours and events their child will attend, and then pay for these packages upfront when signing for the room. We feel that this will allow peace of mind that students will be getting the best guidance. These packages will provide a unique experience that will not be readily provided to them elsewhere. It will ensure that they have the means to enjoy the local area in safe and guided trips, building extensive connections and friendships with other residents and will help to monitor each individuals wellbeing and lifestyle.
Life Ready Activities
Atira offers its students many opportunities to grow both personally and professionally with many lectures and courses on everything from resume writing to cooking.
For many of our students, Atira is the first time they have left home and no longer have a parental figure to rely on for daily chores such as cooking, cleaning and laundry. We try our best to teach these everyday tasks and make students more independent and live healthier happier lives.
